Kintsugi [kin:zugi] has its origin in Zen Buddhism. Literally translated it means "repair with gold". It is an old Japanese art form. When a tea bowl is broken, the artist reassembles the parts with gold lacquer. Kintsugi does not try to hide the broken parts as an obvious flaw, but rather pays tribute to them by filling them with gold. From the original object, a new whole is created that is more stable and beautiful than before the breakage - people are like that, too.
